Funded PhD Positions for Spring 2023

Dear all,

We would like to announce that we have openings for 2 funded PhD positions in our research group starting in the Spring of 2023. If you are currently a graduate student at UH, there is a possibility you can start the research immediately.

Our group currently has 6 PhD students, and there will be 2 more PhD students joining us in the coming Fall semester.

We are seeking for self-motivated and enthusiastic candidates who are interested in academic research in the power system area. If interested, please send your full CV and transcripts to xli83@central.uh.edu; please also send me your GRE/TOEFL scores if available.

Competitive candidates are expected to have strong backgroud in at least one of the following three areas. Candidates from different but very relevant domains are also encouraged to contact me.

  • Power systems, including microgrid
  • Operations research (optimization)
  • Machine learning, particularly graph learning (GNN)

The following skills are pluses:

  • Programming skills, e.g. Python, Matlab, AMPL
  • Experience with machine learning packages, e.g. PyTorch, scikit-learn
  • Experience with power system software, e.g. PSS/E, DSATools, PSCAD
  • Experience with optimization packages, e.g. AMPL, Pyomo

If you have a full time job in the U.S. (not need to be in Houston) but in the meanwhile want to pursue a doctoral degree (can be 100% online), you are also encouraged to contact me with your full CV and transcripts. There is a possibility we can have your PhD tuition fee waived with our college-wide Graduate Tuition Fellowship (GTF).
