In summer 2026, Fan Jiang interned with S&C Electric Company in the Technology Breakthrough & Innovation department. Her work focused on fault location in distribution systems. For an industry-used fault location tool, there was a discrepancy between the actual and estimated fault locations under single-phase-to-ground faults. Her work focused on identifying the possible cause of the discrepancy and correcting the parameters in the tool. After testing communication wires, ground impedance, nearby pipelines, earth resistivity, and other potential factors, she eventually identified the possible cause and corrected the zero-sequence impedance parameters in the tool. Through this internship, Fan gained hands-on experience in distribution network and overhead line modeling.
