If you have secured funding for your PhD studies, your chance would be higher.
Our college provides GRADUATE TUITION FELLOWSHIPS (GTF). The time limit for GTF for a student entering the Ph.D. program at UH with a Master’s degree is 4 academic years. Students entering the Ph.D. program directly after a baccalaureate program cannot qualify for the GTF for more than 5 academic years.
The GTF offered by the College of Engineering at UH is very attractive for prospective students who work in the industry but want to pursue a doctoral degree. It is also very attractive for prospective students who receive external funding that can only cover the living expense.

The University of Houston is classified as “R1 (Tier 1) - research universities (highest research activity)” in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. In the 2019 U.S. News and World Report, the UH Cullen College of Engineering ranked #69 and the electrical engineering ranked #59. The University of Houston is an international university that has over 45,000 students and 2,600 faculties who speak over 100 languages at home.
